Does this sound familiar?
- You’re not hungry, and you’re eating anyway, often fast and often alone.
- The relief lasts ten minutes and the shame lasts the evening.
- You’ve been “good” and “bad” with food for as long as you can remember.
- You know what to eat. That was never the problem.
How I work with this
This is not a diet program and I will not weigh you or give you a meal plan. Emotional eating is an emotion-regulation problem that happens to involve food, so we treat the emotions. I use skills from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): noticing the urge before it becomes the act, tolerating the feeling underneath, and building other ways to meet the need the food is meeting. We also work on the shame itself, which is usually doing more damage than the eating. If a medical condition like PCOS is part of the picture, we work with it rather than against it.
What a first session is like
We talk about when the eating happens, what’s going on just before, and what you’ve already tried. No food logs unless you find them useful.
This may not be the right fit if
You are restricting, purging, or losing weight rapidly. Those need a team with medical monitoring, and I’ll help you find one.
